Vincent Laforet had the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II in his hands for 72 hours over the past weekend and created this low budget ($5,000) short film with the prototype camera.
First impressions of the body from Laforet are extremely positive, he believes it’ll be a big ‘game-changer’ in the industry.
More on the 5D Mark II soon.

As I’ve pointed out before, this shouldn’t give anyone a reason to buy this camera. The guy is a professional who, let’s be honest, is going to make better-looking stuff than we are even if he’s using a cameraphone.
His production budget does not include the equipment he already owns, because he used $15,000 worth of lenses to shoot this thing, and I don’t even know how much money on lights, which are not cheap.
And lastly, there’s the bit about this being a one-minute film shot in 72 hours, because shooting a real movie on an SLR is going to be a slow pain in the ass. No real filmmaker is going to use this thing.
I think this is more of a proof of concept than anything else, and I think anyone who buys this thing thinking they can ditch their camcorder is just going to be mistaken and unhappy.

This is a great feature to have and I honestly feel the direction the DSLR market is moving. I just question Canon’s choice to build this into the 5D Mark II rather than say the 50D. I think professional photographers are going to exclusively use the camera for taking photos and videographers will stick to the hi-end professional grade cameras to shoot video. More people will be inclined to buy Nikons D90 for this feature because of the price-point for entry. Lets face it most will be doing video of their kids birthday, or soccer games and perhaps the occasional vacation clip. Most users would probably be coming from using a Flip or something like that if they don’t already have a DSLR.
I also wonder how many minutes of record time your average CF card would hold?
Here’s looking to the Holiday Season sales numbers.
