Could Aperture 2.0 sway me back from Lightroom? I’m looking forward to playing with it and passing judgement.

I still don’t like that Lightroom doesn’t keep my files in a database. I don’t want to have to muck with folders and files.
A lot of Aperture’s negatives were righted today (like speed, targeted adjustments, some UI improvements), but Lightroom still has the lead in some areas (and is even further behind in some others).

Glenn; I have to comment on your recent posts. You seem to be just regurgitating media from other sources, without adding that ‘personal’ touch that you pride yourself in, and that you have applied in many of your previous post.
This is not an attack, just my two cents. I don’t want to see this blog go that way, after being a reader for such a long time.

Jack - this is just something I’m starting to tie into the site. It’s much like John Grubers linked list. I will still be posting feature articles on the same basis, and the Linked List will be tied in a little better with the new design revision.

Aperture 2.0 is the first really fast version of Aperture. It made me switch from iPhoto to Aperture, and from shooting JPEG to shooting RAW. I’m really loving it.

Downloaded the 30-day trial…not all that impressed. As a very casual photographer, I use my camera mostly for social events and I find Lightroom easier to navigate and more aesthetically pleasing. However, I’m just gonna stick with the simplicity and integration of iPhoto for now — as it does everything I really need.

Jack, I am of your opinion, I am not impressed with a few minor changes that Aperture 1 should have out of the box. Aperture 2 includes a few tools that in my opinion aren’t better than Lightroom’s one.
Conclusion: Aperture 2 had minor changes that should had been in the first version of Apple’s professional photographic workflow. In my opinion, Adobe Lightroom wins the battle… and I can wait for a update for Lightroom that could make the UI a bit more convivial to work with.

I’ve downloaded trials for both, and as a newbie, I must say I like Aperture 2 better. Both apps are a bit confusing at first, but Lightroom continues to stay that way even after a week’s worth of usage. Aperture, however, is already one of my favourite apps - and I’m not even a professional photographer!
