I purchased an iPod touch 16GB two weeks ago and I think it is a great device. The Wi-Fi capabilities are great and the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store is a nice application. The Multi-Touch interface is really easy to use although you always need to clean the screen after using it.. Music, videos and photos look great on the 3.5" screen.

If you're planning to buy an iPod touch 8GB or 16GB, go for it! You'll be happy with it.

Glenn, I was wondering if you were going to jailbreak your iPod touch, or if you were going to keep it original.. Thanks!

The iPod Touch is in many ways the iPod that never was. I thnk long before the iPhone was ever announced, people have been wanting (wonting?) an iPod with touch screen with some PDA capabilities. Apple having decided to exclude an stylus and more PDA traits really cripples the Touch in some degree. Mail/GPS functions would have made it that much more sweeter.

It isn't perfect but it's a good comprismise. I will be getting an 8GB version myself.

Glenn,

I see you've ordered the iPod touch. you might want to be careful here as it seems to be somewhat crippled compared to the iPhone, depending on what you want it for. I just saw a post somewhere that said you can't add calander events via the touch.. it was for reading only. I'm not sure about contacts, but if you can't add calender entries, then this is really just a player and might not be as enticing....

I almost got the iPod touch, but ultimately got the 8GB nano. To me, the $100 extra wasn't worth the big screen and Wi-Fi. We don't have a wireless network in my house, and not at school either, so it would end up being underused. And the big screen is nice, but it also means there are no physical buttons (for control while in pockets and such). And the nano is tiny, and it now plays video, so that settled it.

The iPod touch is a really nice device, but I think overall, the nano is a better choice for me. It was just shipped from China, Delivery Status tells me :)

I am curently in the process of selling my 5.5G 30GB iPod Video to fund the purchase of an 8GB iPod nano. I already have the 4GB iPod nano PRODUCT(RED) edition, and I am in love with it. But, I feel that my video iPod is neglected. So, I will use the new Nano as my main audio/video player, and keep the RED nano for sentimental reasons as it was my first iPod which I purchased with my own money.

I just purchased a 2nd gen 2GB nano. Dirt cheap now that the new nanos are on the market. I simply did, since I need it for the nike+ kit and I don't like the new nano's design plus I don't need the extra applications like video playback while I'm running.

Besides that I will definetly go for the iPod touch. I'm just not sure yet which model. 8 or 16 GB???

Im ordering the iPod touch as soon as it is released, it looks amazing, so glad I had some spare cash lying around. I agree about the value of the ipod classic, for less than the 8gb touch you can get a whopping 80gb classic! Just dying to use that touch screen though :)

I think the iPod touch looks cracking. I already have a 30GB iPod which still has so much space left, as well as a shuffle I received free when upgrading my phone so I really can't justify buying a new iPod. If anything happens to my 30GB I'll be going for the 16GB iPod Touch.

I really like the look of the new video nanos. 8gbs of storage is good enough for me plus, have you seen the size of the new nanos?

If you are one who is looking for Mail in the iPod touch, I wouldn't hold my breath. Apple is marketing the iPhone not the iPod as a PDA, so it makes sense to separate the two products.

I think I'll end up ordering a 16GB Touch later this month.

While I've also been awaiting a device similar to the iPod Touch, I wish it had more space. Such little drive space for so much screen real estate and music seems really dumb for me. While I could make do with a couple movies, music and movies all on that space, plus the inevitable extra applications hacked in, would be way too much on so little space.

I'll be getting an iPod Touch 8GB. 8GB does seem kinda small, but I've only had an iPod nano 4GB in the past, and I never filled it! Now I know, I'll have video, but I only watch a few video podcasts, and I'm in Canada, so no iTunes movies / TV Shows. I do like the look of the iPod Classic, but as you say, I want an iPhone without the phone! However, I do *need* Mail.app on it, and *hope* maps comes on it. iPod Nano (codename (FAT) nano) I think is ugly, but not as ugly as the rumor sites' images were. The new iPod Shuffle colors aren't nice, I liked the old ones, and I'll miss the orange iPod Shuffle :-(

Great post Glenn, and congrats on your 300th post!!!

I am definitely going to score a new 80GB Classic. Right now my girlfriend has my 30GB black video, so I am gonna let her keep that and I'll upgrade :) I'm the gadget freak after all.
