The iVak Domino from Vakadoo is one of the slickest, most simplistic iPod cases on the market at present. The Domino case first appealed to me because of its simple, non-intrusive design which looked very clean and protective. The locking mechanism of the case also looked very unique which convinced me I had to test it out for myself.

The case itself is a hard glossy shell designed to keep your iPod protected while still allowing easy access to its ports. It’s unbelievably thin for a “shell” case, which will appeal to users who want a non intrusive case they can slip into their pocked and forget about. It’s lighter than you would think for a case this sturdy and protective.

It’s made from 2 pieces, the back and the front, which click together to create a firm shell for the iPod to sit in. The front of the case also has a clear hard screen protector attached to it, so no parts of your iPod are exposed to the elements except from the ports, which will keep your iPod 100% scratch free…that’s until it comes to removing it from the case.

This is the hardest case I’ve ever had to open, it requires you to sit down, stay calm, and use the included “iVak Card” to pry the two parts of the case open. In the process of removing my iPod I scratched the sides slightly, nothing to serious, but this case isn’t for you if you constantly taking iPods in and out of cases, because the scratching will start to show.

Conclusion

I’d recommend this case to users who dont have a dock for their iPod, and who keep it in one case most of the time. If you like to dock your iPod while at home, have portable dockable speakers, or like changing cases a lot, then this case isn’t for you. Look at it like renting a house vs buying one. This is the latter.

The Domino retails for $21.95 USD and is available in black and white, and comes in 30 and 60GB versions to keep any 5th generation iPod owner happy.
