Big Props To Jason McVearry And The Media Temple Team
Personal, Web June 9th, 2007I thought I’d write a quick post thanking Jason McVearry and the great people at Media Temple for their excellent service over the past 6 months. I received an email from Jason a couple of weeks ago letting me know that they have made my account a “no-charge” zone, meaning I’m getting my Grid-Server hosting free of charge.
Media-Temple are by far the best host I’ve ever been with in terms of excellent customer support, a simple and functional backend to their hosting system, and excellent community involvement on their staff’s part. I’ve never had a question or support request left open, the Media Temple team really are a dream to work and communicate with.
Big thanks to Jason at the MT crew for Sponsoring me - the investment is much appreciated on my behalf. Good luck guys!

*Napoleon Voice* Lucky!!
Definitely a testimony to your awesome blog Glenn! Congrats!

Lucky you!
I’d love to try out (mt) - just a bit expensive for me right now.
June 9th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Wow, I wish I could get my blog to that status. It would be nice to not have to pay for my media temple hosting.
June 9th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
Welcome to the club. Now you gotta put up a nice big (mt) logo. :-)
June 9th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
Congratulations, you’re very lucky. My blog is nowhere near that status.

No offense Glenn, but this sounds kinda sketchy to me. There have been many many blog posts from people who seem to be having neverending problem with the MT grid hosting. Seems kinda weird that they’re giving free hosting away to popular bloggers who will no doubt then give them some good publicity to counter all the negative press they’ve been getting lately. Obviously you can’t be upset about free hosting, but I think it’s worth mentioning.
I know Ronald Heft (another 9rules blogger) was having problems recently, that went unnoticed until he posted about them on his blog, at which point MT bent over backwards to help him. I doubt they would have done that for someone who didn’t have greater than normal influence on prospective customers opinions about them.

Jason, although the whole “idea” might seem sketchy to some, Media Temple make a strong effort to support customers, big or small. I’ve been a huge fan of Media Temple before I had any contact with their team, and I’ve recommended their hosting in the past, as I’ll continue to do in the future.
Taking Ronald Heft as example, he was a customer who had a problem with the service, and they did the right thing putting in the effort and patching things up with him. That was something they didn’t have to do, but for Media Temple, it’s something they DO.
As long as the service stays the way it has been, my views and recommendation towards Media Temple won’t be affected. It’s been great to date.

I have to agree, Media Temple goes above and beyond to correct problems. (mt) isn’t the first host I’ve used. I’ve been on four hosts until Media Temple. Each of my previous hosts started out good and then turned crappy. The difference is when (mt) started having issues, they actually worked with me to correct them.
For me, I understand every host has problems. I think the big issue is communication, and I really feel (mt) has stepped up on that. They’re now communicating every problem which occurs such as DDOSes and letting customers know what’s being done to correct outages. Most hosts try to cover that kind of stuff up. *cough* Dreamhost waiting several weeks to tell their customers they’ve been compromised. *cough*

From what I have heard Media Temple is great, but it’s a little spendy for the smaller blogs out their. (I also like their website design)

The Grid Server package is $20 per month, or $200 for a full year - not too expensive for what a great service it is, I also agree, their website is beautiful.

I have to agree with everyone else about Media Temple. I’ve used over 20 different web hosts since 2002, but Media Temple is the host I eventually settled with. I now host close to 20 different websites (each with different domains) on one Grid Server account and it works great.
Yes, the Grid has had its issues, but the vast majority of bugs have been worked out. I have no issues on a regular basis.
Congrats Glenn!

I use Media Temple, I pay Media Temple, I have no issues with them except that their Knowledge Base is really out of date, and not particularly helpful.

I’ll take them into consideration then I’ll start my own blog. As for you Glenn, congrats, free stuff is always good, good free stuff even better.

Hi Glenn,
I was actually just moved to post because of how much I appreciate your site design. It’s far and away my favourite website to look at. I get a little ‘moment of zen’ every time I turn up here — and it’s actually caused me to UNsubscribe from your RSS feed, so that I can have an excuse to just check in on the website.
But now that I’m here, reading Dumitru’s comment provides me with the excuse to point you towards something that hopefully counts as ‘good free stuff’.
I launched my free e-book, ‘The 20 Things You Must Know About Music Online’ at http://newmusicstrategies.com/ebook this weekend. It’s aimed at helping independent music businesses, musicians and entrepreneurs across the creative industries deal with the online environment.
So — thanks twice. Once for the good taste, and once for the opportunity for a free plug. Much appreciated.

$20 for 100GB of storage, and 1TB monthly bandwidth is an awesome deal. The transition to the grid was simple, though if I recally correctly it took a little bit. I host multiple sites and administer them with very little trouble. When I got a decent amount of digg traffic one day, you couldn’t even tell. MediaTemple and MovableType held strong.
The first outage I’ve had in a long time was the other day. MediaTemple has responded to all my tickets in a prompt and professional manner. I’ve even had to call at 3am EST to get some stuff resolved and I got phone support immediately and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly even at that late hour.
Of course they’re going to do favors for people who bring them good business by being effective mouthpieces. It’s how our economy works, like it or not. I really think it’s all about how you approach it, and they’ve been super great to me despite my obscure blogger status. I’ll be the first to let you know should that change, but encourage you to check them out and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Flattering, absolutely flattering. What can I say other than thanks? I have my great designer Andreas to thank for the excellent design. It started with one column in hre sidebar and I quickly changed my mind so Andreas re-structured the whole theme to accommodate two sidebars.
The eBook looks great, I’ve just added your site into NewsFire.

Yeah Glen, well done i also completely agree Media Temple’s support and professionalism is second to none..

Well done Glenn, your a very talented young man.

Cheers to all.
Some clarification here:
We do indeed fully support Glenn’s hosting. “Why?” you may ask, becasue Glenn is by far one of the most prolific writers in his age group and simply impresses the heck out of us. We want Glenn to be able to continue to grow and not worry about the cost of hosting, which can get extremely costly at his age for a
We consider this relationship a Scholarship and valuable investment in the future of the technology blog community.
