What Ads Do I Run On My Blog?
Blogging, Web May 13th, 2007
I’ve been asked many times in the past about what ads I’m running on my blog. Many have emailed me complementing the “beautiful style” of the ads which “don’t look like ads at all”. I thought I’d post a little blurb to save others from having to ask the same question.
Question: What ad service do I use on my website?
Answer: None.
That’s right, there is no back-end to my advertisements, they are not automatically generated by code like Google Adsense or similar services, I pursue companies and developers personally to gain sponsorship.
Sure it takes a lot longer and requires much more effort than using a simple service like Adsense - but in hindsight, the ads look much cleaner, and as users have said in the past, they look beautiful.
It’s really nice to be in contact directly with people who are interested in sharing their product via my website. I gain satisfaction when I hear someone purchased an application/service after seeing an image in my sidebar or reading one of my posts.
Interested in sponsoring me? Contact me for more details.

Ok Gleen, this is very strange, recently I’ve been reading problogger stuff about ads services and while loading the bloglines site I was thinking “what kind of service does Gleen uses”? and then bloglines loads, booom, here’s your post about ads! :D
Next time I’ll load bloglines I’ll think about led-screen macbooks :D.
I’ve noticed that your ads get randomized(at the time I’m writing this post I see 2 ads for “awaken 3.1″), how do you do that? php?
cheers.

Dumitru: While you’re at it want to think about Apple Cinema Displays? ;-) Regarding the randomization of advertisements, I’m using PHP code in a separate file, which is called on in the main sidebar template.

No Glenn. It’s JavaScript. I should know because I set it up for you…. =P

Haha, I’ll think about 20 inch Apple Cinema [led]Displays with a iSight cam into the body(like the macbooks) and a 30% price cut, deal? :D
But if you randomize the adverts how can you be sure that your clients will get both the same amount of exposure time? they pay you all the same price? how does it works, they pay you by placement for a time or per click?
ps: even in the advertising the mac scene is beautiful!

i run google ads, ads, text-link-ads, pretty standard. but if my blog has a good following then advertising will be more company/product driven. there’s definitely a limit i can make from google ads, etc from just one blog.

It’s the first time that I see those ads because of PithHelmet :P
It’s true, they look beautiful!

Great post! I’m about to go sans Adsense myself and this is really encouraging!

Great ads! At first I thought they were products you worked on.. fooled me once ;)
Keep it up, they sure look nice! Very nice to browse and see that kind of publicity, easy on the eyes, very tempting (I clicky couple, curiosity!)

I agree, these types of ads are way more effective than Adsense or any other form of auto-placement. Not only are they guaranteed to target the correct audience, but they look way better too.
More sites need to do this.

I do like your ads alot. We run the more attractive and relevant affiliate ads we can find, but there is not much out there that is nice looking.
