Changes You’ll Be Seeing Around Here Soon
Personal March 13th, 2007Over the past few weeks I’ve become more decisive with my decision making, especially in terms of the direction this blog will continue heading in. I’ll continue to provide great product reviews, spotlights on new Mac applications, tutorials, personal opinion articles and more. I also have a few extra things I’ll be adding to make the blog a little more enjoyable both personally for myself, and for you.
Firstly I’m working with Andreas on a slight re-alighnment to the current design, attaching the body of the content to the left side of your screen and adding a third column to the sidebar on the far right. This will allow me to display more cool features in the sidebar, such as the Top Commentors plugin.
Secondly, I’m going to add in a “Noteworthy” section similar to the one on Subtraction, where I will be posting multiple links daily to a separate section on the site (with a separate RSS feed) for your enjoyment. These links will all be rated from one to five stars, and be catalogued in an ordered fashion.
A few minor changes that are also in the works are separating the trackbacks from reader comments under postings, along with my comments styled a little differently to easily find them when scrolling through readers views.
Expect to see some of these changes start to take effect starting late this week - if you have any suggestions on feature additions/changes, drop a note below.

Could you provide a combined RSS feed for both your regular content and the Noteworthy section?

I like the idea of the Noteworthy section. I must say the new design has really grown on me. Keep up the good work Glenn

Richard, I’ll see what I can do. Josh, glad the design is growing on you. :-)

I’m looking forward to seeing these changes.

I don’t think Top Commentors is a good idea. People will be leaving useless comments just to have their name in that list. (Yeah, sounds familiar.)
And I don’t really like this current design, so maybe these changes will make it better.

When I redesigned my site I debated the left alignment. I think it gives a blog more a a periodical feel when it’s left alignted. Like you’re reading something that could very well be printed and delivered to your door.
The Everything page on Subtraction is cool. But for how many times I’ve been to Khoi’s site vs. how many times I’ve utilized that page I wonder if it’s worth the extra trouble to set it up that way. I guess it makes for better archiving though if you don’t want those links to get lost.

Glenn,
I’ve messed around with a couple of designs using a starred rating system, the latest of which is built on Derek’s v2 theme. It may be of some interest to you if stars are your likely route.
Keep up the great content (interviews / reviews / wallpapers)!
