Mac App A Day Launches With A Tune
Apple December 2nd, 2006Mac App A Day launched this morning with their first free giveaway for TuneX, a utility that allows iTunes access from any application. Very nice. They plan on giving away 5000 copies of a different applications every day during the month of December.
Today’s application TuneX is a easy to use application that allows you to access iTunes through any application on your computer. It is designed around the idea that it will take up only the minimal amount of screen space by sliding underneath
the menu bar when not in use.
This controller gives you access to the most fundamental features of iTunes such as Play/Pause, Back Track, Next Track, Volume and more from with in any running application on your computer.
Pick up your copy of today’s application here.

I was to slow to grab one :/
December 2nd, 2006 at 6:36 am
Same here, yannic.
Oh well, at least I have Menuet for the same thing! I’m still happy.

Found out about this through MacZOT, it’s pretty nice but it takes up too much space on my 12″ display. I prefer using keyboard shortcuts through Quicksilver to control my iTunes.

December 2nd, 2006 at 11:08 am

@ Codie.
I believe it is 9pm your time. :) . It was released at 12am saturday morning so that translates to 9pm saturday night your you in NZ. Anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong ;)
December 3rd, 2006 at 1:09 am
7 hours after it starts I get my copy of MailStewartLite. Maybe the 5000 copies ’shortage’ isn’t so short after all?
December 3rd, 2006 at 9:49 am
@ Josh.
I think most people don’t get up until 10 on saturdays. (I get up at 1.30pm :-P). So if you were up early you would’ve gotten your copy.
December 3rd, 2006 at 9:59 am
Hey i got a copy of mail stewart just 5 mins ago, doesnt seem to be as popular today, to tell you the truth i dont even know if i have a use for the program but no harm in trying it out
December 3rd, 2006 at 10:00 am
@Michael
thanks, 9pm gotta remember that
December 3rd, 2006 at 12:22 pm
Well after a good first day, I don’t see myself using MailStewart. Plus there has been some mirror sites that have given the MacAppADay people some trouble
December 3rd, 2006 at 12:45 pm
I don’t use it, too… Maybe I have have to give it some attention, but it didn’t blow me away at the first glance, like e.g. Cha-Ching did.
December 3rd, 2006 at 8:06 pm
I just got it. Cookie Assassin. I deleted it after I tried it. It’s lame.
December 3rd, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Just downloaded Cookie Assassin as well. I don’t get why you can’t just go into Safari, Firefox etc. and delete the Cookies yourself
December 3rd, 2006 at 10:29 pm
I agree it’s lame..
I hope they come up with something better tomorrow..
December 4th, 2006 at 1:33 am
I don’t like TuneX at all!
I prefer a free application that has MANY more features. It’s called GimmeSomeTune.
December 4th, 2006 at 1:35 am
Btw, day 2 just went live. I just submitted it to digg:
http://digg.com/apple/MacAppADay_Day_2_Cookie_Assassin
The app is pretty okay, except that it’s PowerPC, not Universal and the license page took forever to load.
December 4th, 2006 at 1:40 am
@ Codie, Josh: What in the world is MailStewart? I thought day 1 was TuneX and day 2 is Cookie Assasin!
Can you guys clarify this.
@ Michael: Do you still have that extra copy of MailStewart?
December 4th, 2006 at 7:08 am
@ Smaran
Day two was MailStewart, day three was Cookie Assassin. Neither have been attractive options for me.
December 4th, 2006 at 5:48 pm
Cookie Assasin is crap…
Why would they give us not UB software to download??
hmm…
December 5th, 2006 at 1:09 am
Damn! I missed MailStewart! What does it do?
December 5th, 2006 at 4:16 am
I missed Yummy FTP today, at least I thought. I rushed to download it at school, but I’d used up all my work space. Ahh well, Transmit is where my money is going when I put my blog on it’s own domain and I need an FTP app.
December 5th, 2006 at 5:01 am
I missed Yummy FTP too :-(
I hate MacAppADay. MacHeist is my boo.
December 5th, 2006 at 8:09 pm
Just downloaded an app called Shoebox, a tool for cataloging large photo collections apparently. However the system is slow and I can’t send off for my licence key. This just gets worse and worse
December 5th, 2006 at 8:10 pm
Today’s app’s site is very slow for me too.
December 5th, 2006 at 8:11 pm
Thanks for the reminder, I’m downloading it now.
December 5th, 2006 at 8:14 pm
Argh. You guys are right. This is so slow it’s killing me. And I’m the one who is used to a slow Internet connection (256k).
December 5th, 2006 at 8:31 pm
Just zapped Shoebox. It sucks. It’s like Finder, but for photos and aims at replacing iPhoto, but does a shit job at it.
December 6th, 2006 at 8:03 pm
Today’s app, Shadow Clipboard 3 is just a direct download so there shouldn’t be any slowdown. It looks like its a clipboard along the lines of iClip. Any thoughts?
December 6th, 2006 at 8:04 pm
Sorry for the duplicate comments Glenn, you can delete the first.
December 7th, 2006 at 11:05 pm
MacAppADay has gotten so lame. Look at today’s free app :-(

The last two apps have been really good, Mira today and XSlimmer yesterday. However these really pale in comparison to the MacHeist. I can’t wait for the final bundle
December 10th, 2006 at 12:12 am
Yeah, MacHeist kicks MAAD butt. I’m not using a single app from MAAD. Xlsimmer was okay, but no great shakes. And I still haven’t got my Mira license (it’s been hours since I filled the form).
December 10th, 2006 at 1:13 am
Smaran, have you checked your spam filter? A lot of the licences I’ve sent off for have been stuck in my Gmail spam filter and therefore haven’t been reaching my Mail app. I really need to find a way of Mail handling all my spam instead of Gmail doing it for me
December 10th, 2006 at 1:41 am
@ Josh: Yes, I’ve been checking my Gmail spam filter often. The XSlimmer code got stuck there. Still no Mira serial :-(
