Top Readers, By Most Comments
Personal November 26th, 2006
You might have already noticed, but if you look at the sidebar of the blog, there is a new item visible. It’s called Top Readers, and displays the top 5 readers of GlennWolsey.com by order of who has made the most comments.
I decided to add this feature to the blog because without your feedback and comments, I wouldn’t have the same amount of inspiration to keep writing. I might even make the names link to your websites to send a little traffic your way to say thanks.
Want your name up in the spotlight? Then get commenting!
November 26th, 2006 at 3:09 pm
Yay, I’m at no. 3. How cool is that.
Thanks for adding that module, Glenn. It’s the same thing that keeps me going, people’s comments. I’d take 1 comment over 50 unique visitors any day. It keeps the blog alive.
November 26th, 2006 at 4:00 pm
@ Smaran.
Tied for 3rd. :-P.
That’s cool, I didn’t know I’ve commented that much, but glenn, if you count all the moved posts. I shoule be #1. ;-)
November 26th, 2006 at 4:02 pm
Let’s see how long we remain tied at third place ;-)
And you can’t take credit for other peoples’ comments that you just helped move.
November 26th, 2006 at 4:03 pm
I was joking about that anyways. But 1 rule..we have to promise not to spam, and no more posts on previous articles…if you are okay with this…don’t comment ;-)
November 26th, 2006 at 4:05 pm
Hey, what plugin are you using to do that? It’s pretty nifty.
November 26th, 2006 at 4:05 pm
The race is on ;-)
November 26th, 2006 at 4:06 pm
WOOOHOOOO 2nd now hus this wph fella aye, he got competition comming HAHAH
November 26th, 2006 at 4:07 pm
Okay, deal. No posts older than a few days tops and definitely no spamming.
I am okay with this, but how could I not comment? ;-)
November 26th, 2006 at 4:08 pm
@ Codie: Aren’t you wph?
November 26th, 2006 at 4:11 pm
I meant not commenting on my last comment :-P. But anyways, I also thought codie was WPH. Shows how much I know..
November 26th, 2006 at 4:16 pm
I know what you meant, Michael. Hence the last line with the little winking smiley.
“I am okay with this, but how could I not comment? ;-)”
So, Codie isn’t WPH?
November 26th, 2006 at 5:00 pm
Cool, I win!
November 26th, 2006 at 5:24 pm
Daniel, here is the plugin I’m using. I spent about 30 minutes customizing it to my liking however.
November 26th, 2006 at 5:25 pm
Ooh, I’m also interested to learn more about wph. So whoever/wherever you are, tell me about yourself and if you have a website :-)
November 26th, 2006 at 5:27 pm
I have a website. It’s called Yahoo!. Yep, I own Yahoo.com.
November 26th, 2006 at 5:29 pm
The below comment is not the real wph, I checked the Ip address.
So that means you have admirers who are impersonating you wph! ;-)
November 26th, 2006 at 5:32 pm
LOL, it was me. Looks like I just bumped up wph’s comment count :-(
*feels idiotic*
November 26th, 2006 at 5:34 pm
Glenn, look what you’ve done. You’ve created a monster!!! everyone’s trying to their comments.
btw. I’ve talked to WPH on the MacHeist forums. http://wpholmes.com for all fo you.
November 26th, 2006 at 5:39 pm
*note to glenn*
Add an edit button for comments (there is a WP plugin). Also make people register for your site, so there are less impersonaters :P.
btw. my last post is supposed to say “trying to up their comments”.
November 26th, 2006 at 5:45 pm
Monster is such a hard word. At least you didn’t say troll :-P
wph has one sleek site! Beautiful, and very Mac-like.
Glenn, all you need to do is add the ‘Register’ link to your sidebar. It’s usually part of the ‘Meta’ module. I’m not sure if you’re theme had it, but you can download another theme and copy-paste the code.
*looks for clip-on fangs*
November 26th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Okay, I agree with Michael, we need an edit button too.
I just typed ‘you’re’ instead of ‘your’ :-(
November 26th, 2006 at 6:08 pm
I’m sticking with monster…
and the not being able to edit thing is bugging me… I tend to make a lot of typing mistakes.
November 26th, 2006 at 6:13 pm
I swear im not whp glenn can check the ip addy aye glenn wink wink hahahaha nah jokes im not him i swaer
November 26th, 2006 at 6:28 pm
What browser are you using? I tend to make a LOT fewer mistakes while using Safari since it has the lovely Cocoa spellcheck. The Firefox and Camino spellchecks aren’t nearly as good or responsive to right-clicks.
November 26th, 2006 at 6:58 pm
I want to be up there! Oh well.
Glenn, that is an awesome thing. You always seem to have the coolest things. Well, keep up the good work.
Later.
November 26th, 2006 at 7:02 pm
I use safari, but I type quite fast (the back button is my friend :) ). But inside text boxes like this one that i’m typing in now, the safari spellcheck doesn’t work.
November 26th, 2006 at 7:04 pm
Man, I left that comment (forgot to click submit) for like half and hour and there was only one comment, then I click submit, I am like the 24th comment. holy cow! lol
November 26th, 2006 at 7:52 pm
It works perfectly well for me.
Just right-click in the box and choose Spelling > Check Spelling as you type.
If that doesn’t work then you need to run Software Update.
November 26th, 2006 at 8:56 pm
Glenn, great feature. It’s nice to see such a close knit community here
November 26th, 2006 at 9:37 pm
nice feature! *heading_for_#_1*
Maybe I’ll install that on my own blog someday :)
November 26th, 2006 at 9:41 pm
oh I took Caitlyn’s 5th place :)
November 26th, 2006 at 9:46 pm
Now, now, Yannic. Lass mich der Held sein! LOL
November 26th, 2006 at 9:56 pm
Shameless tactics ‘yannic’ :P just kidding. Glenn, have you thought of submitting your posts to Digg.com more regularly and putting a ‘Digg This!’ button at the bottom of story. There’s some quite nice buttons out now.
http://digg.com/tools/buttons
November 26th, 2006 at 10:01 pm
Don’t put up a Digg This button, Glenn. it indicates that you want to be dugg. You’re getting dugg anyway.
November 26th, 2006 at 10:07 pm
OMG, I’m tied with wph at 37!
November 26th, 2006 at 10:13 pm
@ Smaran
Maybe something is going wrong on my end but I see you as tied with Micheal at 21 :S Congrats that your up there with 37 though!
November 26th, 2006 at 10:15 pm
Ahh…dopey moment. I’ve been looking at the blog post ‘Top Readers’. My bad
November 27th, 2006 at 1:07 am
Glenn I think you should toss this feature, it’s just creating spam. *and i’m contributing*. Yannic and Smaran are the worst offenders *points*…*they did it!*….*hides*
November 27th, 2006 at 1:43 am
We are the worst offenders? You’ve spent two comments complaining about it, Michael.
And Glenn, remove it if you like, I just think it encourages people to participate more actively. It’s like the whole topusers thing on digg. Why do you think I submit so many stories? So that I can look at digg.com/topusers and see my name and logo there and smile smugly. Sinful, but fun.
@ Josh: No problemo. I’m often spaced-out too.
November 27th, 2006 at 1:46 am
@Smaran
If you don’t mind…what’s your Digg profile name?
November 27th, 2006 at 1:50 am
koregaonpark.
And yours?
November 27th, 2006 at 2:26 am
Ahh…I’ve seen many good posts from you lately. Keep up the good submitting!
jl24…but I’m not a very interesting digger!
November 27th, 2006 at 2:39 am
Cool, thanks! I’ll do my best :-)
I’ve added you back.
November 27th, 2006 at 2:56 am
that’s a great new feature glenn, almost like a contest now. keep up the posts!
November 27th, 2006 at 3:04 am
I have been a reader of your blog for a short time now, and I never thought of commenting. But now that I have started reading these comment threads, I couldn’t resist.
Keep up the good work
Herkamer
November 27th, 2006 at 8:09 am
Excellent idea. I should add one to my blog. Added motivation to comment.
November 27th, 2006 at 9:54 am
Here i come
November 27th, 2006 at 9:56 am
Humm interesting
November 27th, 2006 at 11:36 am
@ Smaran, I dont mind everyone commenting this much, it’s nice to see you are all having a good time fighting for the top spot. I cant wait to implement some more user specific features over Christmas.
November 27th, 2006 at 12:12 pm
I don’t think any of us can wait either.
Christmas is-a-coming. Free schwag for regular readers! :-D
November 27th, 2006 at 5:45 pm
I’m up for free Schwag for regular readers :-P
I need a serial for newsfire. you can give that to the person tied for second.
*hint* its me at the moment ;-P *hint*
November 27th, 2006 at 7:20 pm
I’d love a shareware serial too. And since I’m not tied at no. 1, I’d be more than glad to humbly accept it :-)
I’d be happy to get any of the following, since I’m planning to buy them myself at some point of time in the distant future. CandyBar, Newsfire, Transmit, Acquisition, Xtorrent. Or a donation to Aurora or Journler in my name.
LOL, got carried away there. I’m perfectly happy with nothing, Glenn. Ignore our greediness. Cheers.
November 27th, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Free schwag ay?? All I ask for is you not having a break uploading to Flickr. I saw the ‘Break.’ photo this morning Glenn, very imaginative, but why the break?
November 28th, 2006 at 2:23 am
@ Michael: Sorry for spam, but unfortunately there’s no “Edit post” button coming with wordpress so far :)
I hate spam especially on weblogs (thanks to Akismet :) ).
