How Does Your Mac Look?
Apple November 24th, 2006I am so attentive to how my Mac is organized. Everything has a place, and everything must be in place. I can find a file in seconds (yes, even without Spotlight), and there is not one thing out of place, it’s all perfectly in order and sorted. In other words, I have a little OCD to how my Mac looks.
Here’s a little insight to how I operate with my main desktop, my Dashboard, and my tidy Finder.

The only items you ever see on my desktop are hardware icons, such as servers, removable media, and iPod’s. I keep the dock very simple and only leave things in it that I use many times a day.

I like to limit how many widgets I have open because of the system resources they take up. Two widgets I couldn’t live without are iStat Pro, and Mint stats.

I have the popular “Agua” icon set applied by CandyBar to make my icons look attractive. I cant wait to see what Apple does in Leopard in regard to system icons.
So how does your Mac look? Are you like me and have everything in place and organized, or do you just use your desktop as a dumping ground?

Glenn have you got high res pics so we can see what your using better? I like the look of the widget underneath the countdown widget

I hate a few things on my desktop: Drives, my iDisk, anything I’m currently working on, and a folder called “In Box”
Thats for things I’ll get back too in a little while, but not right away. There’s also a folder in the In Box called Misc. where I keep things I have no real place for, like the theme song for the A-Team and Gilligan’s Island, and a political cartoon someone sent me.
I’m sort of holding off organizing my machine, as I’ll get a chance to start fresh with a BlackBook.

Whoops, that’s supposed to say ‘have’, not ‘hate’.

I’ll link up some high-res pictures for you later tonight Josh.

hi glenn, where is the wallpaper you use from?
November 24th, 2006 at 7:47 am
Bernd, I almost always use my own wallpapers, but today I am using something a little different. Unfortunately I dont have a link, I can upload it to my server if you wish?

I am very much the same when it comes to computer organisation. Downloads go to the desktop upon which they are immediately filed. Dashboard is mininmal and dock is only filled with running apps. I use Quicksilver/Overflow to do my launching. There is nothing worse than a folder that has everything in it, with no stucture whatsoever… IMHO.
Here’s to organisation! ;)

I noticed that you don’t have Quicksilver running, how do you get to apps otherwise?
November 24th, 2006 at 1:35 pm
well, you’ll then flip out when you see mine - I blame it on Quicksilver though, it’s too easy to find anything with it which makes me not bother to keep my Mac nice and tidy at all!

My desktop is on the sidebar of my site. Updated every few days. ;)
Nice desktop Glenn. Im curious, what is on top of your Junior Mint widget? Thanks!
November 24th, 2006 at 6:00 pm
It’s called the mint recent referers widget, and costs $5.

Glenn, I cannot imagine how you manage with just Spotlight and Finder. QuickSilver is so essential to my Mac experience. It’s an integral part of every OS X machine I own.
Anyway, here’s my current desktop, neat and clean just like yours (and no, I didn’t run camouflage or something similar before taking that): My Desktop
@ William: The link doesn’t work.

I prefer no icons on my desktop - it makes it that much cleaner and more visually appealing (I hate having anything cover a good wallpaper). For this I use Desktopple from Foggy Noggin software.

Glenn, I was unable to access the wallpaper from the site you mentioned. It is showing an error. Is there an alternate site from which I can get it?
January 13th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
Ah, sorry. I did a big server cleanup the other day and must have deleted it. Does anyone have a link as I’m not on the iMac (where the wallpaper is)?

Glenn, any luck in getting the wallpaper? I think it is one of the best wallpaper picture I have ever seen. Try to upload it again if you can.
