Visual Preview: Shiira 2.0 Browser
Apple September 24th, 2006Shiira is not a big name in the Mac browser business, that spot belongs to the likes of Safari, Firefox, and Flock. But be prepared to have another browser added to the list of must haves very soon, when Shiira 2.0 is released to the public.
Shiira 2.0 has been completely re-designed from the ground up including some stunning new features, many very visually pleasing.
Overview, Well Designed Browser

Overall Shiira seems to be a nicely designed well compiled browser. However it is not useable in it’s current state, the browser is full of bugs and things which still need working out/fixing. If you do give the browser a spin frequent crashing is not unusual.
Full Screen Browsing

When did you last check out a site where you continually scrolled, vertically and horizontally? I find many sites like this every day, this is where Full Screen Browsing coms in handy. Click one button and you are taken to a full screen environment where you can browse uninterrupted.
Preferences, Tweak It Out

Every aspect of Shiira’s design is fully customizable, this is your control panel where you call the shots on how you want the browser to look/feel like.
Shelf, At Your Fingertips

The new version of Shiira no longer uses a Drawer to display Bookmark, History and Download information, these items, and the search engine can now be found in a full window/tab view called the ‘Shelf’.
The shelf is pretty much like your Mail inbox. It’s where you manage everything from one central location, from your bookmarks, to contacts, to web clippings.
PageDock, Visually Appealing

One heavily requested feature is something that OmniGroup implemented in version 5 their browser OmniWeb—Tab Thumbnails.
This is an alternative the the default tab bar we all know so well, except this is a tab bar with a twist. It displays up to date image previews of the page, making it easier to fid what are you looking for.
Tab Expose, Find What Your After

Inspired by Apple’s Exposé, Shiira’s one of a kind Tab Expose makes browsing the web with many pages open a breeze, and almost a pleasure. Simply hit one button and you are presented with all the tabs you currently have open, laid out beautifully on the screen, just like Expose, but for your web-pages. Genius.
I cant wait to try out and review the fully function-able browser once it’s released. Try out the beta copy here.

I wish they would include an option for firefox-style tabs. I _hate_ safari-style tabs, they take up way too much space.

Nice. It would be awesome if there was a built-in DOM inspector!

This looks cool. I tried one of the old builds when it first came out but it was really buggy, hopefully I’ll like it this time.

@ Codie
It’s still very buggy, too buggy to use as your main browser. I cant wait for the bugs to get worked out so I can start using it more.

What’s with the wacky angle of the screenshots?

Wow, this looks very sexy. I’m definitely looking forward to using this!

Wow, I’m seriously impressed. You’re giving ordinary pay software a run for its money. I was expecting some cool features like these from Apple, not an open-source project. Respect!

Perhaps you might consider linking to the site you plagiarized for this entry—or at the very least, change the title a little more.

Hi Mark, thanks for the link. Interesting article. I didn’t know anything about that, so thanks for the interesting read.

Nightlies are kept on the PimpMyShiira page - which has suffered a database blow - but may be resurrected if the ß progresses.
It’s been a while since the last one surfaced…

It sounds fantastic. The question is - this post is absolutely new and original, isn’t it? It seems to me I’ve saw it somewhere before.
